Walking down Main Street with the scent of Magic in the air...is there anything better?!  Let me help get you into that moment and so many more, where your days are full of fun and memories to last a lifetime!  I love planning and will design an i...

Ah, the long-awaited travel day! All of the anticipation has led to this and you are on your way! The day you travel from home to Disney or another vacation destination holds a lot of excitement. There are some things to consider to make your travel day both smooth and memorable!

***If you have not yet read my post/travel story on The Final Countdown:  Top 5 Tips for the Last Week, check it out!

But let's chat about when your travel day has finally arrived! Check out these Travel Day Tips:

1) Allow plenty of time! Even if you have TSA Pre-Check like we do (highly recommend), you want to create a cushion of time in case of traffic or other unexpected obstacles. Once you are through security, you can locate your gate and then relax while eating a meal or snack. Grabbing some snacks and water from 1 of the airport shops for the plane is always a good idea as well, or use one of the refillable water stations if you have an empty travel water bottle with you. This is a time to connect with your group and congratulate each other that you are on your way- goodbye work and school, it is vacation time! Some families have a tradition around places they like to go for a special snack or coffee at the airport- these traditions become part of what makes the trip special and memorable!

2) Dress for comfort! You will want comfortable, breathable clothing including a light jacket, cardigan, or sweatshirt. And of course comfortable shoes are a must. If you do not have TSA Pre-Check, make sure your shoes are easy on/off.

3) Bring items in your carry-on that will keep you comfortable and entertained during the flight. For kids, this may be a favorite stuffed animal-hopefully a smallish one! You will want wired headphones if your flight will have screens for movies, or if your airline has you use your own device AirPods or other wireless headphones will do. Watching a movie can really help the time go by. You may want to bring a book and/or a travel journal. Mints or gum to use during takeoff and landing are always a good idea, or take frequent sips from your water bottle or other drink.

Relax and know that you are now on vacation! You will soon be at your destination, exploring your resort, and this is a very exciting time!

But what about the other type of travel day? The day when you are traveling back home after your vacation? Well, all of the 3 tips above apply, and there are several other things to keep in mind. ***You can refer to my travel story on How To Beat the Post-Disney Blues!

On your travel day home, you can begin easing your return to reality by organizing and/or posting your photos and by ordering prints to put in an album and/or frames.

You can reflect on your trip: What were the highlights? What would you hit again next time or do differently next time? What was your favorite food? What experience did you love most? What were some funny things that happened?

And, of course, you can spend your travel time on that return trip home planning your next trip! Where will you go? What dates might work well? Where might you stay? You can start typing a note on your phone of possible ideas.

So, I am curious- what is your favorite travel day tip? What traditions do you or your family prefer on your travel days?
